Officially incorporated in 1911, the Burbank area was originally part of two large Spanish land grants dating from the late 18th century and early 19th century. In 1867, a dentist from New Hampshire, Dr. David Burbank, purchased parts of both land grants and combined them into a large sheep ranch, occasionally selling small plots of land. The area was mostly rural until the aviation and entertainment industries moved in during the 1920s. Today, Burbank prides itself on being a city of “people, pride and progress,” and combines 21st-century technology with a high quality of life.
